The Perfect Antique

February 23, 2010

Some of my most adventurous days are spent trekking through numerous antique malls, mini boutiques, estate sales, and even yard sales. These days are spent sifting through beautiful chests from the 1800s and magnificent water coloured floral images dating back to the 1700s. Finding your piece may be the first step into personalizing your home. But, restoring your piece back to life is a whole new experience that can connect you even deeper to your find.

Swedish Antique Furniture

You may find a beautifully printed image that needs the perfect antique frame to bring it back to life, or a large circa 1890 dresser that no longer has knobs to open up the drawers. Although little changes may be in need for your recently found treasure, it is also nice to keep the charm of the rustic paint and possibly those old drawer knobs, as long as they are all in place! Whether you are an antique enthusiast, or someone who desires to collect just a few pieces of their own, you can never be wrong in picking out that unique piece to personalize your home.

Modern Elegance

February 17, 2010

We truly love decorating with antique and vintage decor, but we find when we add a piece or two of modern furniture, the look of the space begins to take on a more refined elegance. We are appreciating the art of modern decor more and more, and have found some amazing pieces by designer Christian Liaigre from France. Take a look through his collection of French modern mixed with a strong Asian influence. We love his couch in the image above.

Designers to Watch; Liz Libré

February 15, 2010

We love everything custom paper and design company, Linda and Harriett has to offer. That is why designer Liz Coulson Libré is part of our next series in ‘Designers to Watch’ here on ColourLuxury! The brand was launched in 2007 and was named after Liz’s mother and grandmother. Her designs are simple and cool, ranging from thank you cards to note pads, to custom designed letterpress invitations. We could send any of these pieces to our friends any day of the week. One of our favorite designs of hers is the ‘thanks’ card with the dog and bones! Love it! Check out some of our favorite pieces of hers in the image gallery below!

Love Humble

February 9, 2010

We love products that can express our personal style, and the Humble Collection definitely fits into this category. The designs are bold and creative, and the use of colourful animal prints in pillows, linens, and tote bags is something we can truly appreciate, and we are happy to share them with you today! The products use organic cotton and their company supports the idea of keeping all of their products animal free, so we can feel good about purchasing these pieces as well. Check out some of our favorite pieces from them in our image gallery below!

Creative Outdoor Spaces

February 5, 2010

Spring is our favorite time of year. The weather is beautiful, flowers are blooming, and everyone seems to love spending more time outside. We are beginning to think about our outdoor spaces and are in the early planning stages of our many parties to come all the way through to fall!

Creative Outdoor Spaces

We love interesting outdoor lighting, and have an image that will be sure to inspire your outdoor parties. We suggest adding some colour and warmth to your patios by finding coloured paper lanterns that will bring a trendy and romantic feeling to those calm spring evenings and those warm summer nights.

The easiest way to hang paper lanterns is by finding battery powered lights, or by purchasing light cords and manually putting the lanterns together with the light bulbs. You can find great paper lanterns and light cords from Pier 1 Imports. Get creative with your outdoor spaces and find decor that will inspire you to utilize all of your space and make you want to spend more time outdoors.

Create Sophisticated Glamour

February 3, 2010

Create a contemporary sophisticated glamour in your home by finding inspiration in these beautiful rooms decorated by Kelly Wearstler. In my opinion, she is the most amazing and beautifully inspired contemporary interior designer today! Her work is unbelievable and not only does she design residential projects like the rooms you see in these images, she also designs major commercial projects and has collaborated with some amazing talent in the industry to create textiles and other home decor pieces. She can transform any space to fit her projects’ surroundings, by finding Hollywood glamour in the Los Angeles area, to creating a tropical contemporary oasis in Miami. We truly find inspiration in her work and hope you too can enjoy these beautiful images!

Colour your home in Style

February 1, 2010

Combining colours that seem to be opposites in a decor point of view is the perfect way to add style and personalization to your home. The image above is a perfect example of this type of space and is styled by Jonathan Rosen. He has great ideas when it comes to mixing and matching to create unique spaces that are definitely one of a kind. By using bright colours like the pinks and teals in the image above, you can give your space that special lift of personality it may have needed for some time. Matching every piece perfectly to one another is a thing of the past. Sometimes the unexpected is all you need to create a style that you and your guests will be sure to feel like they are in a room full of style and luxury.
