Love your Outdoor Space

March 26, 2010

Spring is in the air, and soon enough we will all be able to enjoy beautiful sunny afternoons with longer days to spend more time outdoors. Your porch or patio should be your go to destination for relaxation, dining, and entertainment.

Love your Outdoor Space

Create a beautiful space with furniture you will love to spend your evenings relaxing on, and be proud to use that ‘extra room’ in your home! The porch in the image above is narrow, so we found the most appropriate furniture that would suit these surroundings. The furniture does not take up a lot of space, and we added great additions like the beautiful lighting and hanging mirror to make it feel like another room in our home.

We hope you can find inspiration in the image above to make your outdoor space comfortable and stylish so you can invite your friends over for drinks this weekend!

Shop our vintage finds!

March 16, 2010

We are selling many of our great vintage finds in our own shop, Lucy and Ellen, on Etsy. As two sisters who truly love the amazing styles of their Grandmothers, Lucy and Ellen, we decided to pay tribute to their fabulous looks by naming our shop after them. We found a way to combine our love for design with our love for treasure hunting. We will feature a rotating collection of finds that can truly revamp your space into a one-of-a-kind room.

We will be connecting this shop to our blog with the re-launch of our newly designed site this month! Along with our Lucy and Ellen shop, we will be selling other items in a section of our site, titled SHOP. We hope you find some great pieces you may be looking for!

Pantone’s 2010 Colour

March 4, 2010

As spring is approaching and brighter colours begin to fill our worlds through fashion and design, and it is time to start thinking about a colour that at times may be overlooked in the world of decorating.

Colour of the Year

The colour is turquoise, and it is Pantone’s pick for 2010 as their Colour of the Year! In their article, they discuss what turquoise means to many cultures. It is meant to represent deep compassion and healing, and it is known as a colour of faith and truth that is inspired by the beauty of the sky and water.

We are happy turquoise is Pantone’s Colour of the Year because this is definitely one of our favorite hues to decorate with. In the image above, the living room was painted with a lighter turquoise, and accented with other blues through the curtains, chairs, and small dishes. The mixture of nature through the prints and the heeling hues makes this room a beautiful example of how to decorate with turquoise.

We hope you can find inspiration through this post to use this beautiful colour in your home this spring. Give yourself the pleasure of paradise while relaxing in your abode!

Mixing Traditional with Vintage

March 2, 2010

Combining your traditional spaces (like this kitchen above) with vintage pieces will bring style and personalization to your home. In the image above, we combined some mid century modern bar stools to a traditional space. This kitchen center island needed stools to completely utilize its space. It was just a matter of bringing something new and different to make sure this space fulfilled its  full potential for style and personalization.

Mixing Traditional with Vintage

It is so simple and fun to find a few pieces you really love, and transform your spaces into amazing styles that are all your own. Play around with your colours and spaces, and find an area you can bring some funky pieces into.
