Fall Gardens at Home

July 30, 2010

There is something about being outdoors and enjoying nature late in the summer and early into fall. It is warm and peaceful, and definitely one of our favorite times of the year. Although many people begin new home gardens in the spring, it is never to late to learn to plant and grow seeds for every season! Why not start your own fall garden? Growing healthy, organic vegetables and plants for you and your family will be a fulfilling experience. Make it your own ‘me’ time in your backyard, or involve the entire family! There are so many tasty greens to grow, like lettuce to turnips, to squash and broccoli!

Between August and and November you can plant seeds determining on their best growing months to bring you and yours the tastiest and healthiest vegetables around! We found this great site, www.MotherEarthNews.com to help you learn the best germination conditions for your garden!

Vintage Storage Solutions

July 21, 2010

We are always looking for different solutions to keep our offices organized. As lovers of everything vintage, we are always on the search for affordable and stylish storage options. It gives us a great excuse to display some of our finds so they are not only cute, but also functional! Here are some great ideas for you to organize your office or home!

This first idea is such an easy fix for that stack of magazines in your office, or your pile of great linens and textiles in your sewing room. Head out to your local flea market and look for vintage wire baskets to turn those messy piles into a stylish storage space to tuck underneath your office desk, or beside your sewing machine! This industrial vintage wire basket will look great in retro and traditional spaces!

This next storage solution is so cute and easy for all that extra mail laying around your office. Find some vintage metal file spaces for another vintage industrial look to add some style, personality, and functionality to your life! Depending on the amount of storage needed, you can find just 1 of these mail holder, or find multiples to stack them on top of one another. You will have a great vintage look on top of your desk to keep your office looking clean and your life more organized!

Another great vintage storage solution to keep your life organized is to file your business cards or letters into a vintage toast rack! We LOVE this idea because it is such a simple and cute solution to cleaning up and maintaining all of those business cards and/or letters your receive.

You can find all of these great solutions, and ones just like them on our Etsy shop, Lucy and Ellen!

Dreaming of Relaxation

July 20, 2010

As I sit here busy as can be, I can only dream of a weekend vacation. I want to kick back on a lounge chair, poolside (with ocean views of course), with a good book by my side, a nice mojito in hand, and tropical palm trees swaying in the wind. Take a break and come with me to my “weekend vacay!”

Nautical Style Goes Modern

July 20, 2010

We LOVE the idea of mixing a classic nautical decor with a more modern touch! We have some simple ideas to create a modern, streamlined feel with that nautical touch to transform your beach home into a stylish abode you will love for years. We found some great rooms from CoastalLiving.com that have this beautiful nautical, modern feel.

One way to make a subtle stylish nautical look without over embellishing those beach accessories is to add simple and classic patterns to your pillows and linens, just like the beautiful blue and grey stripes in the image posted below. By adding clean lined white modern furniture you are creating that stylish yet simple setting to add to the peace and tranquility of living near the water. By using an almost all white palette throughout a room, you are creating a place where your mind can relax and feel at ease!

Organize in Style

July 1, 2010

We are always looking for new ways to organize our home to keep life simple, beautiful, and above all else fun! One of my ‘to do’ projects on my forever ending list of projects is to paint the interior of my office bookshelves with a bright blue color. I was inspired by the bookcase in the image above (courtesy of MarthaStewart.com).
By adding paint to such a simple piece of furniture, you can add more interest to your room. The items showcased on the shelves will pop against the bold paint colors!

(If you are looking for another stylized way to personalize a bookshelf you could place a great wallpaper on the shelves and inside backing. We will begin our own, and share it with you in the coming weeks!)
