Farmhouse Kitchen

August 30, 2010

As fall is quickly approaching I’m getting excited for all the fun things that come along with it! A soft fall breeze, tasty candy apples, and beautiful fall colours are just a few of the things I love about this time of year. Fall reminds me of the amazing food that goes along with it, so I am inspired by this farmhouse kitchen chic today. It makes me crave spending time with family, especially in the kitchen! I love spending time in the country during this time of year, and since I can’t make it out there anytime soon, I’m going to enjoy these lovely photos!

This image reminds me of a beautiful farmhouse kitchen in France. A farmhouse kitchen isn’t complete without white vintage egg cups like these.

Cottage Farm

Baking is essential to me during this warm and cozy time of year. It’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors during the day, but late afternoon is the perfect time to start up your oven and bake an apple pie!

How neat is this vintage sifter? I could definitely see this piece sitting around that farmhouse chic kitchen.

Gallivanting Girls

This image reminds me of one of our family traditions; making popcorn balls with Grandma Lucy. She is the queen at making popcorn balls, and it’s one of my favorite things to do with her. So yummy!

The lighting in this photo reminds me of the light in my kitchen from the fall sun. Very cozy and comfortable.

Loving this image and these milk cartons. Very vintage and very cute!

Although Grandma Lucy is the popcorn ball queen, my Mom is the queen at making candy. When she starts making her yummy homemade candy, you know it’s finally fall! I just might have to get this set for her.

Mellow Yellow

August 27, 2010

Yellow is such a charming and cheerful colour! It’s so inviting, and I find it makes any item just that much more interesting when it is shaded in a beautiful yellow. Very trendy, very retro, and I’m very much in LOVE! These are some fab photos and products I think that exemplify that oh so stylish and modern feel. Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Wallpaper Loving

August 25, 2010

I have always put a stigma on wallpaper, probably because it always reminded me of an 80′s style home with those tacky florals that are just not very cute at all! But, I have started to warm up to the idea of wallpaper again, now that there are stylish and sleek styles with sharp funky colours and cool digital printing designs I could definitely say yes to!

I think the process of picking out the wallpaper is exciting, since it is a bit like shopping! But, then there comes all the rules that go with the decision of which style to pick, as well as just getting it up on the walls! Here are a few rules I have heard over the years about picking out the right design for any space…

ThiBaut Design

1. For smaller rooms you probably don’t want to use huge designs. 2. For spaces with a lot going on you want to make sure the pattern is smaller so the room isn’t so busy. 3. For rooms with low ceilings it’s important to pick vertical designs to make the room look larger. 4. Make sure to consider the natural lighting in the space you want to wallpaper. Just as it is important when picking paint for a room, it’s also important when picking a wallpaper design. 5. Last but not least, make sure you either know what you’re doing when sticking on the wallpaper, or hire a professional. You don’t want uneven patterns or bubbles in your beautiful new wallpaper!

Maybe one day I will take on the project of wallpapering one of my rooms, but for now I will just enjoy other home lover’s fabulous walls!

Mixing Modern with Vintage Decor

August 24, 2010

Mixing modern decor and vintage classic decor is the perfect way to add your own style to any space of your home. I want to share a great combination of colours and vintage and modern pieces with you.

Kristen Beinke Photography

This past weekend I found some amazing home decor pieces at an estate sale. These pieces included a gold framed mirror and a stunning painting. The mirror has a beautiful vintage frame, and is just the perfect size for a table setting. The small painting is so perfect and truly reflects the calming elegance I want to reflect in my office. I then added a modern bright yellow vase with beautiful white flowers. This combination of styles and colours work perfectly together to create a luxurious setting that won’t go out of style any time soon!

Back to School

August 23, 2010

Most of the country started back up at school today. I am a total nerd and secretly wishing I was starting a new school day. As a young child and up into my college years, I always LOVED shopping for new school products! It was a new year, a fresh start! Well I’m going to make school shopping even more exciting by showing you some cool vintage pieces to bring you back, or to find for that special someone who is lucky enough to be sitting in class this week! Geeks unite!
