‘Tis the Season

December 10, 2010

I always read through Real Simple’s website for fun and innovative ideas for the home. I love some of their new holiday decorating tips they came up with for inexpensive and fun ways to decorate for the holidays! It’s definitely a must read article for those of you wondering what you can do for that ‘wow’ factor with your holiday decor. My favorite idea is grouping vintage ornaments on beautiful ribbon that hang from your ceiling. I also love the retro christmas lights wrapped around a wire wreath form! We’re decorating our home this week and I can’t wait to try some of their tricks of the trade!

Design + Gardening = New LOVE

December 6, 2010

I’m always crazy about nature and planting, and now I’ve learned about this company that creates really awesome designs as planters for your home. The company is called Boskke, and they have evolved gardening with the beauty and simplicity of natural life combined with a cool contemporary style, and I am in LOVE. Their planters are called the ‘Sky Planters’ as they hang upside down from the ceiling…..perfect for the apartment in the city or that small home office. And don’t worry, all the dirt won’t fall out; there is a locking disc around the stem of the plant that connects to the pot. Take a look at some of their designs!

P.S. How amazing are these photos?

New Vintage at Lucy + Ellen

November 17, 2010

This past week has been a little crazy for Kristen and myself, and we have not been able to post much. We are now back and have a few fun posts planned for the rest of the week! As many of you know, Kristen and I share an Etsy shop called Lucy + Ellen. We named our shop after our grandmothers, Lucy and Ellen, who have always been fabulous in everything they do. Being inspired by these two amazing women, we found our own passions to combine our love for design with our love for finding fabulous items.

Those of you with Etsy shops and other online stores know that there is a lot of planning going into this holiday season, so we have been updating our Etsy shop with some great new finds. From pretty silver pieces to quirky items, we have unique one of a kind items we have found through weekends of flea market and estate sale adventures. How are you preparing your Etsy shops the holiday season? Let us know!

Dreaming of…a Cozy Bed

October 18, 2010

I’m starting a new weekly post called ‘Dreaming of…’ with a special room or product I am dreaming of each week. Today I’m dreaming of a warm cozy bed…While we’re all waking up on this Monday morning, I’ve decided that although I can’t stay in bed this morning, I will at least dream of beautiful soft fabrics and cozy blankets. Soft pastels make these beds seem even more soft and comfy, and this is definitely something I can dream about on this Monday morning.

Colourful Bowls

October 11, 2010

Martha Stewart Living’s design director James Dunlinson and his partner, Alistair Turnball, have an amazing kitchen. After viewing many beautiful photos of their kitchen, I have been on a mission to find a collection of colourful bowls to spruce up my own space. I love how they organized the bowls they have; their collection looks clean and functional and isn’t too perfect. It looks like a home. I’m slowly adding unique dishes to my own cupboards to brighten up my space. Take a look at some of my favorite finds so far from Anthropologie.
