Style in Books

October 6, 2010

I love colourful hard cover books. I love rooms and walls full of books even more. A room covered in floor to ceiling bookshelves is so stylish yet very “homey.” There is something so special and intriguing to me about walls and walls of new and old stories, black and white photos, and beautiful art.

When you can play with the colours and sizes of the books it can create such an effortless style for your home. The best part about your own home library, is that there aren’t any rules; just your own. Create a colour combination or organize at random. Whichever way you choose, your imagination will be running every rainy afternoon that you’re searching for a good read.

The bookshelf in my future home will definitely have one of these rolling ladders, and I think it should be a fun colour, maybe teal. I love this effortless look, including the amazing workbench and chairs. LOVE!

Desire to Inspire

These extremely tall shelves and extremely large windows are amazing. Floor to ceiling bookshelves and floor to ceiling windows in one room? Yes please! Can I live in this amazing studio?

There is so much character in a room full of books, and I’m looking forward to a rainy afternoon this winter where I can sit down and flip through pages and pages of a good read. Now I just need my floor to ceiling bookshelf. I’ll take any of these.

Eco-Friendly for Fall

October 5, 2010

It feels like fall is upon us here in Santa Barbara with a cool breeze and new colours on the horizon. I LOVE the colours of fall so I’m sharing some fab finds that will fit well in your home for this beautiful season. It only seems fitting to look for eco-friendly pieces inspired by the beautiful nature and colours of this time of year, so I have done just that!

I LOVE this sham from Plover Organic. The colours are soft and beautiful, and the fabric is made from 100% organic cotton and recycled plastic button closures.

This beautiful console is by Velocity Art and Design. It is constructed of FSC certified plywood with a nature theme that seems so fitting for the fall season. It is simple and sleek.

These nature trays are designed by Tord Boontje made from recycled metal alloys. Not only is the product designed eco-friendly, but it is also continuing support of our beautiful world through donations to the organization, Greenpeace, with every purchase. LOVE.

Far East Modern

September 8, 2010

Far east modern designs are my new obsession. Although we have all seen far east designs of colors and busy prints of the past, here are some modern pieces you won’t find in any traditional home.

Living in the Black

August 23, 2010

Loving black decor is so new for me! Living in a small beach house in Santa Barbara has always inspired me to decorate with very soft, light colours. I typically love light shades of white, grey, blue, and silver, but I am now falling for darker colours, particularly anything black! Maybe it is because I’m secretly dreaming of having a stylish apartment in San Francisco or New York City. I think that adding even just one black piece to your space can add a cool sophistication that demands attention! Here are some modern black pieces I have began to obsess over. Feel free to leave comments to help me find some more pieces to add to my wish list!

Stylish Home

August 18, 2010

We are so crazy about this home! These images are from a recent shoot Kristen did in Los Olivos, California. There is an obvious beauty when you look at this home, with amazing architectural details and very creative decor. We have found the details and style of this home to be so personal and inviting. The home owner has combined a breathtaking style with an element of classic design mixed in with great vintage finds.

We love the large barn doors that break up the dining area and the family room. These beautiful vintage barn doors are directly opposite of classic french doors that open up to a spacious back patio. The home owner’s choice of natural colors of whites, browns, and tans, add an element of classic decor, and the vintage inspired dining chairs and vintage chandeliers are so neat! There are even painted vintage tins on the ceiling! She thought of every single detail! You can’t help but love this room!

This back patio connected to the dining area is a simple and elegant outdoor space. We love how the natural colors from the interior blend into the exterior of this home. We could definitely relax on this patio and enjoy a pink summer lemonade!

This space off the main area of the outdoor patio combines the beautiful architectural classic feel of this home with these amazing vintage industrial stools off of the kitchen. Just open up the window and pass through some dinner! LOVE this home!
