Dreaming of…A white Cottage

November 3, 2010

This week I’m dreaming of a beautiful white country cottage, preferably for my own personal design studio. I LOVE this old garage turned into amazing workspace by owner and designer Tricia Foley. I could seriously see myself working endless hours in this space; designing, creating, and relaxing quietly with a cup of coffee and my laptop. I feel inspired just looking at these images!

The sliding large barn door and beautiful simplistic furniture and decor make it a calm environment. There is a touch of modernity with this amazing coffee table , the cement floor, and the cool simple whites and neutrals. She even has one of my essential needs in a studio; an amazing industrial bookcase with lots and lots of books. Beyond the beautiful indoors of this workspace, the setting within the tall trees and the calm of the outdoors make this place my dream!

I am truly dreaming of this amazing workspace. I know my creative would be flowing every time I entered this little abode.

Wallpaper Loving

August 25, 2010

I have always put a stigma on wallpaper, probably because it always reminded me of an 80′s style home with those tacky florals that are just not very cute at all! But, I have started to warm up to the idea of wallpaper again, now that there are stylish and sleek styles with sharp funky colours and cool digital printing designs I could definitely say yes to!

I think the process of picking out the wallpaper is exciting, since it is a bit like shopping! But, then there comes all the rules that go with the decision of which style to pick, as well as just getting it up on the walls! Here are a few rules I have heard over the years about picking out the right design for any space…

ThiBaut Design

1. For smaller rooms you probably don’t want to use huge designs. 2. For spaces with a lot going on you want to make sure the pattern is smaller so the room isn’t so busy. 3. For rooms with low ceilings it’s important to pick vertical designs to make the room look larger. 4. Make sure to consider the natural lighting in the space you want to wallpaper. Just as it is important when picking paint for a room, it’s also important when picking a wallpaper design. 5. Last but not least, make sure you either know what you’re doing when sticking on the wallpaper, or hire a professional. You don’t want uneven patterns or bubbles in your beautiful new wallpaper!

Maybe one day I will take on the project of wallpapering one of my rooms, but for now I will just enjoy other home lover’s fabulous walls!

Stylish Home

August 18, 2010

We are so crazy about this home! These images are from a recent shoot Kristen did in Los Olivos, California. There is an obvious beauty when you look at this home, with amazing architectural details and very creative decor. We have found the details and style of this home to be so personal and inviting. The home owner has combined a breathtaking style with an element of classic design mixed in with great vintage finds.

We love the large barn doors that break up the dining area and the family room. These beautiful vintage barn doors are directly opposite of classic french doors that open up to a spacious back patio. The home owner’s choice of natural colors of whites, browns, and tans, add an element of classic decor, and the vintage inspired dining chairs and vintage chandeliers are so neat! There are even painted vintage tins on the ceiling! She thought of every single detail! You can’t help but love this room!

This back patio connected to the dining area is a simple and elegant outdoor space. We love how the natural colors from the interior blend into the exterior of this home. We could definitely relax on this patio and enjoy a pink summer lemonade!

This space off the main area of the outdoor patio combines the beautiful architectural classic feel of this home with these amazing vintage industrial stools off of the kitchen. Just open up the window and pass through some dinner! LOVE this home!

Do they make suitcases large enough for everything I want to bring home?

Small Spaces, Big Style

August 11, 2010

Decorating a smaller home can be challenging. As I was looking for inspiration for my smaller home, I came across a great article from HGTV’s “5 Small-Room Rules to Break.” They are going the unconventional route and telling all of us to break the rules we have been taught for so many years: and I have to agree with them! They have some great ideas, so I thought I would share their ‘rules to break’ with you! Their top ‘break your patterns and rules’ are as follows;

Rule # 1 to Break: Paint Small Spaces White

Rule # 2 to Break: Stay Away From Lots of Patterns

Rule # 3 to Break: Keep Knick-Knacks to a Minimum

Rule # 4 to Break: Very Small Rooms Demand Very Small Furniture

Rule # 5 to Break: Hang Lots of Mirrors to Visually Expand a Space
