Hello!

July 9, 2011

Wow, I can’t believe how fast we are moving through 2011! I’m really happy to be back here and writing a post today! We’ve been gone for quite a few months so let me tell you what we’ve been up to;

So, back in late January when our lives were getting a little crazy, Kristen and I made a concious decision to take a little break from writing here on ColourLuxury so we could focus on our businesses and a very special wedding; Kristen’s wedding! 6 months later, we’re back, and ready to get back into this! Between a wedding for Kristen, a house move and a businesses warehouse move for me, and a serious focus on growing my pet product business, there wasn’t a lot of time to be creative here on the blog, and I’ve really been missing that. I love to write, I love to look for inspiration, and generally just love the creative freedom this blog can allow us!

For those of you who know Kristen, she got married at the end of April. She’s a wedding, portrait, and commercial photographer so this was definitely a switch up for her being on the other side of the camera at a special event. I was her Maid of Honor, and spent a few months planning a pretty amazing bachelorette party in Beverley Hills (if I must say so myself), attended a few wedding showers (and helped host one), and of course had tons of family and friends in town here in Santa Barbara for the big day! As you all know, being a bride or a member of the family during the planning of a wedding is definitely time consuming but nonetheless ensures some of the most memorable days of your families’ lives.

(Hoping Kristen will be able to share their wedding photos for you on here. There was amazing decor at the wedding I’m sure you will love!)

So, the wedding has happened, my pet product business is growing, and Kristen has re-decorated her studio here in town (amazing work-bench type table we found at local flea market and some really neat Restoration Hardware chairs…will share photos with you soon). So much has happened this year and we really want to be able to write about it. We would love to focus on connecting with our readers through creativity with home decor, our love for fashion, and possibly with advice on entrepreneurship too!

I’m really happy to be back and writing here, let’s inspire one another and get this train moving!

Wrapping Blues?

December 15, 2010

Don’t get stuck in a wrapping rut this holiday season. Melinda Morris, owner and visionary of Brooklyn-based paperie, Lion in the Sun, offers these tips to make your gifts shine on the outside.

1. Think outside the paper. Fabric, scarves, tote bags, jars are the perfect eco-friendly way to keep your gift under wraps.

2. Waste not, want not – use extra scraps of paper for paper ribbons, decorative fans and flowers on other gifts. Double-sided wrap is even better.

3. Color code. For big families, color coding gifts for each not only makes a pretty picture under the tree, it is a huge time save for Christmas morning.

4. Stamps, stickers, and more. Choose one base color for the gift wrap and buy it in bulk. Then personalize each gift with stickers, stamps, decorative tape, twigs, feathers, and leaves.

Melinda really has some awesome tips that are simple and fun for those gift wrapping, paper loving people, aka…ME!

Gift Me with Organization

December 15, 2010

I’ve been thinking long and hard about what I really want to receive this holiday season and I’ve decided to go towards a more practical approach (really good excuse) to get some awesome pieces I’ve been swooning over the past few months. Well, I’ve been working on getting my mounds and mounds of paperwork under control, my books set beautifully on a shelf, and I need a better way to transport my laundry from the home to the garage. So my list consists of stylish decor that will help me get organized throughout my home after a pretty hectic holiday season! Here are some of my choices…..(I’ve even included a few items from Lucy + Ellen I would rather keep for myself!)
